This collection is a third level cultural relic in the collection of Hai'an Museum, donated by Mr. Tan Xuerong. Paper letter, with intact appearance and slight mold on the paper. This letter records a period of history in Hai'an and is an important reference material for studying the history of Hai'an in the Republic of China. In 1923, the gentry of Haian, Lu Shengwu, founded a civilian factory. Mr. Han Guojun, who was then the governor of Jiangsu Province, expressed his support and mobilized people from all walks of life to donate. He also donated his 70th birthday gift and usual writing expenses to the civilian factory. This letter was written by Han Guojun to the famous Shanghai style calligrapher and painter Tan Shaoyun, requesting him to call for the collection of paintings in the Shanghai calligraphy and painting industry to support civilian factories.


Tan Shaoyun (1901-1988), named Zhiren and also known as Fenghuang Mountain native, was a Miao Wei layman from Hai'an Town, Jiangsu Province. Born into a family of calligraphy and painting, he is known as the "Three Tan" along with his father Tan Zuiyun and younger brother Tan Xiaoyun. At the age of 17, he went to Shanghai with his father Tan Zuiyun and received guidance from many famous masters on the sea. At the age of 20, he was fortunate enough to be accepted as a disciple by Wu Changshuo and obtain his true biography.
