【Bird Eater】

Military generals raise eyebrows, literati raise embroidered eyes, wives and young ladies raise parrots, and young masters raise larks. Chinese people have a tradition of raising birds since ancient times, from courtyards to literati and scholars, all of whom enjoy raising birds.

At present, the earliest archaeological excavation of bird food utensils in China is the black glazed bird food jar unearthed from the tomb of the 13th year of the Yongyuan reign of the Eastern Han Dynasty in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu. Both Longquan Kiln and Jiaotan Xiaguan Kiln of the Southern Song Dynasty had fired such utensils. During this period, bird eating utensils were mostly in the form of a drum belly pointed bottom, with a small hanging system on the abdomen; During the Yuan Dynasty, the shape of bird eating utensils gradually evolved from a pointed bottom to a round bottom, and the body of the utensils also began to become shorter. The body and glaze gradually thickened, and the glaze color evolved into a blue to yellow color; The bird eating utensils of the Ming Dynasty were further developed, with the glaze of the utensils being slightly thinner and finer than that of the Yuan Dynasty, and the shape of the utensils being slightly shallower and in the shape of a water bowl; During the Qing Dynasty and Xianfeng periods, due to the increasing popularity of bird farming and entertainment activities, people's aesthetic taste and appreciation level gradually improved. In terms of the shape of objects, various forms have emerged, such as square, circular, flower shaped, and hexagonal shapes; During the Republic of China period, bird eating utensils inherited the aesthetic characteristics of the late Qing Dynasty, which were mainly characterized by bright colors, bright body patterns, and more diverse character themes.
